Feature Request Management Best Practices for Product Teams
Stop losing feature requests in Slack and email. Here's how to manage them like a pro.
1. Centralize everything
Use one place for all feature requests—a feedback board, not spreadsheets or scattered Slack threads. Everyone should know where to add and find ideas.
2. Let customers vote
Voting surfaces demand. One request with 50 votes vs. one with 2—you know which matters more. Tools like FeedbackHub make this built-in.
3. Communicate status
Move requests through statuses: New → Planned → In Progress → Shipped. Customers see progress. No more "what happened to my idea?"
4. Close the loop
When you ship, notify requesters. "We shipped X—thanks for the feedback." Builds loyalty and encourages more feedback.
5. Say no (and explain why)
Some requests you won't build. Close them with a brief explanation. "Not aligned with strategy" or "low demand"—honesty beats silence.
